Nari Shakti Award winner Karthyayani Amma passes away at the age of 101

In 2020, Karthyayani Amma was the recipient of the Nari Shakti Puraskar, the highest civilian award for women. Karthyayani Amma, the poster girl of Kerala's literacy mission, passed away at her residence in Alappuzha at the age of 101. She was the oldest learner under the literacy mission in the state. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his grief and condolences on his demise. “Deeply saddened by the demise of Karthiyayani Amma, who created history by becoming the oldest learner under the State Literacy Mission. Showing unwavering determination to pursue education despite challenges, he served as an inspirational role model for many. His demise is a significant loss to our literacy movement, which helped shape modern Kerala.
