A group of scientists from India and the United Kingdom have discovered a new species of toad – Bufoides bhupati in Mizoram's Dampa Tiger Reserve. About the new toad species: This is the third species of the Bufoides genus which is found only in a very narrow area of north-east India. The new species from Mizoram differs from the co-generic (same) species in interdigital webbing, coloration, skin tuberculation, etc. The discovery of the new species – Bufoides bhupati – found in Mizoram's Dampa Tiger Reserve with the presence of ovaries, tubercles and suppressed parotid glands was published in the latest issue of the journal Biodiversitas, published in Indonesia. Two previously known species of the genus 'Bufoides' – Bufoides meghalyanus and Bufoides kempi – were found in Meghalaya.
