Epithemis wayandensis: New species of dragonfly found in Wayanad

Environment

A new species of dragonfly has been discovered in the lush green landscape of Wayanad. To mark the lush green and biodiverse Wayanad Plateau nestled in the Western Ghats, the Red-rumped Hawklet, dragonfly has been given the scientific name Epithemis wayandensis. Christened Red-rumped Hawklet, the species is profoundly seasonal, taking to the skies exclusively during the month of October, conclude researchers after a year-long study. This discovery hints at the possibility of other species awaiting revelation in the same landscape.
