As per data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India's unemployment rate fell to 7.14% in January 2023, the lowest in four months, from 8.30% in December 2022. The urban unemployment rate declined to 8.55% in January 2023, from 10.09% in December 2022, while the rural unemployment rate slipped to 6.48% from 7.44%. Among the states, unemployment rate was the highest in Jammu and Kashmir at 21.8 percent closely followed by Haryana at 21.7 percent and Rajasthan at 21.1 percent. unemployment in Delhi in January was at 16.7 percent, Goa at 16.2 percent, Assam at 16.1 percent and Tripura at 16 percent. unemployment was the lowest in states like Chhattisgarh at 0.5 percent followed by Odisha at 1.5 percent, Tamil Nadu at 1.8 percent and Madhya Pradesh at 1.9 percent.
