M.S. Swaminathan: Agriculturalist who sparked a revolution dies at 98

Swaminathan, the recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, and the World Food Prize, widely known as the father of the Green Revolution, died in Chennai. Swaminathan was selected as the first World Food Prize Laureate in 1987 for his contributions to the development and promotion of high-yielding wheat and rice varieties in India. He was awarded one of the national awards, 'the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award'. Following this, he was conferred with the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan awards. He also received the H. K. Firodia Award, the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award, and the Indira Gandhi Prize. China awarded him the "Award for International Co-operation on Environment and Development".
