The Assam government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Survey of India for implementing the Svamitva scheme in the state, which aims to provide an integrated property validation solution for rural areas. The MoU was signed between Assam, Director of Land Records and Surveys, Shantanu P Gotmare and Director Assam and Nagaland, Survey of India. The Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, and Assam Government's Department of Revenue and Disaster Management will implement the scheme with the support of the Panchayat and Rural Development. As a technology partner, Survey of India will take steps to survey rural land populated by drone technology. It will also set up ground based control stations to enable detailed spatial database of properties in rural areas. The purpose of implementation of SVAMITVA scheme is Reducing property disputes and legal matters. It is a central sector scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 24, 2020 (i.e. during National Panchayati Raj Day). Under the scheme, the entire property of the village is surveyed by drone and property cards are distributed to the owners. The scheme aims to cover around 6.62 lakh villages in India during the period 2021-25.
