Kumar Sangakkara Appointed as New Chair of MCC's World Cricket Committee

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Monday announced that former Sri Lankan captain and great batsman Kumar Sangakkara will become the new chairman of their World Cricket Committee. He also revealed that former Hampshire captain turned broadcaster Mark Nicholls would take over as the club's new chairman. Sangakkara, who had served as MCC president since 2021, will replace former English captain Mike Gatting, who served as the World Cricket Committee chairman for six years, which also includes other eminent cricketers like Sourav Ganguly. Heather Knight, Justin Langer, Eoin Morgan and Graeme Smith. Considered one of the greatest players of the game, Sangakkara is Sri Lanka's leading run-scorer in Tests with 12,400 runs in 134 matches and was the captain of the 2014 Men's T20 World Cup. Apart from winning the Media Cup, he has also scored 14,234 runs in 404 ODI matches. After retiring from international cricket in 2015, Sangakkara has done commentary work in addition to being the director of cricket and head coach of the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals.
