India becomes President of International Sugar Organization (ISO) for the year 2024 to lead the global sugar sector

International

The International Sugar Organization (ISO) announced in its 63rd Council meeting that India will be the President of the organization for the year 2024. The headquarters of the organization is in London. India has been the largest consumer and second largest producer of sugar in the world. With about 15 per cent share in global sugar consumption and about 20 per cent of sugar production, Indian sugar trends significantly influence global markets. This leading position makes India the best suited nation to lead the International Sugar Organization (ISO), the apex international body on sugar and related products. It has about 90 country members. In the Chinese market, Brazil is the leader in the Western Hemisphere and India is the leader in the Eastern Hemisphere. Now, being the world's third largest country in ethanol production after the US and Brazil, India has shown its commitment to green energy and its ability to turn the challenges of surplus sugar in the domestic market into a solution to fossil fuel imports.
