International Science and Peace Week is celebrated every year on 11 November during the festive week

Important Days

International Science and Peace Week was first celebrated in 1986 to commemorate the International Year of Peace. The week's events and activities were organized as a non-governmental initiative; The Secretariat of the International Year of Peace was informed about the preparatory activities and a final summary of the events that took place during the week. Based on the success of the 1986 event, organizers continued their efforts in successive years. In recognition of the value of the annual observance, the General Assembly adopted resolution 43/61 in December 1988, proclaiming "International Science and Peace Week", to be observed during the week falling on 11 November each year. The annual celebration of International Science and Peace Week is making an important contribution in promoting peace. The week encourages greater academic exchange on a topic of universal importance, as well as creating greater awareness among the general public about the relationship between science and peace.
