Kolkata Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee named former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly as the brand ambassador of Bengal at BGBS. Ganguly walked up to Banerjee on the stage and accepted two letters, one of which was handwritten by her, declaring him ambassador. "Please accept it," he told Ganguly amid applause from the delegates. Banerjee described Ganguly as "a popular person who can do a lot of good work for the younger generation". It was announced to set up a steel plant in Salboni, Midnapore. Later, when JSW closed the project, it returned 3,000 acres of land to the state and used a portion of the land to set up a cement grinding unit.
