Important Days

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to the Border Security Force personnel who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on the 59th Raising Day of BSF in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand. BSF is the world's largest border security force with a strength of around 2.5 lakh. The Personnel Force celebrates its Raising Day every year on 1 December. Deployed to guard the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders, the BSF is the only force in the country that has a clearly defined role in wartime as well as peacetime. Deployed in the most challenging terrain and remote locations, BSF personnel act as guardians of India's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. At present, the BSF has 192 (including three NDRF) battalions and seven BSF artillery regiments guarding the international border with Pakistan and Bangladesh. Apart from this, BSF is also playing a role in anti-infiltration in Kashmir Valley, anti-insurgency in North East region, anti-Naxal operations in the states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh and security of integrated check posts on Pakistan and Bangladesh international borders.
