Para Indian athletes finish fifth with 111 medals at Hangzhou Asian Para Games 2023

India won 29 gold, 31 silver, 51 bronze medals and stood 5th behind China. India's best-ever campaign at the fourth Asian Para Games ended on Saturday with a total of 111 medals, marking the end of a historic few weeks in Hangzhou. Earlier in the 19th Asian Games, India had finished with a total of 107 medals. One of the stars of the Games was armless archer Sheetal Devi from Jammu and Kashmir, who won three medals and two of them were gold. After the silver medal in women's doubles compound, Sheetal also won two gold medals in mixed doubles and women's individual. She was born with phocomelia, a rare congenital disorder that causes her limbs to be underdeveloped. Another standout performer was Tokyo Paralympics javelin throw gold medalist Sumit Antil, who threw 73.29m to win gold in the men's javelin throw-F64. Till now this is the highest distance in javelin throw by any athlete in para athletics across all categories.
