Prime Minister Narendra Modi approves first urban flood mitigation project worth ₹561.29 crore for Chennai

After the cyclone hit Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the first urban flood mitigation project of ₹561.29 crore under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) for 'Integrated Urban Flood Management Activities for Chennai Basin Project'. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh along with Tamil Nadu Finance and Human Resource Management Minister Thangam Thennarasu and Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena also conducted an aerial survey of areas devastated by Cyclone Michuang in and around Chennai. “Severe cyclonic storm Michong has affected Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Although the extent of damage varies, many areas in these states are submerged, affecting standing crops. To help state governments manage necessary relief from the cyclonic storm, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to release in advance the central share of Rs 493.60 crore of the second tranche of SDRF to Andhra Pradesh.
