Every year, World Prematurity Day is celebrated on 17 November. In 2008, European parenting organizations came together to create a day focused on creating awareness of premature birth concerns on 17 November. This was the first International Awareness Day for premature birth. Since 2011, this day is celebrated as World Early Childhood Day – the term was coined by the March of Dimes. On this day, parents, health organizations, non-profit organizations, government bodies, societies, communities, companies, The media and individuals come together to discuss the concerns of premature birth and how it can affect the baby and family. It also helps in dialogue regarding improvements in health care facilities to address such health concerns of premature birth. On this day, people come together to encourage research related to the concerns of premature birth and help address them with innovative approaches. The global theme of this year's World Urgency Day is Small Actions, Big Impact: Urgent Skin-to-Skin Care for Every Child, Everywhere.
