The acronym artificial intelligence (AI) has been named Collins Word of the Year for 2023, the dictionary publisher said.

The Collins Dictionary has revealed its word of the year – and there's no surprise here: AI has been crowned Collins Word of the Year for 2023. The dictionary defines AI as "the modeling of human mental functions by computer programs." Alex Beecroft, managing director of Collins, said: “We know AI has been a big focus this year, given the way it has evolved and evolved. Whether streaming or any other future, it is now increasingly ubiquitous and embedded has become part of our lives as a form of everyday technology. A team of language experts from the publisher analyzed the Collins Corpus, a massive database containing more than 20 billion words. The database includes information from websites, newspapers and Contains written material from a variety of sources, including magazines and books.
