Hindustan Aeronautics Limited sets up JV with Safran for helicopter engines

MOUs and Agreement

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) said it has incorporated a joint venture (JV) named "Safal Helicopter Engines Pvt Ltd" with France-based Safran Helicopter Engines. According to a statement from HAL, the joint venture will design helicopter engines. The Safran-HAL aircraft engine facility is a 50/50 joint venture between French aerospace company Safran Aircraft Engines and state-owned defense PSU HAL. It was inaugurated in July last year in a special economic zone near the Kempegowda International Airport. The plant produces complex piping for most LEAP engines. There are already several partnerships between HAL and Safran Helicopter Engines, including the Shakti engine, which powers helicopters manufactured by HAL including the Dhruv, Rudra and Light Combat Helicopter (LCH). More than 500 Shakti engines have already been produced.
