India is ranked 117th among 129 countries in the world in the Inclusion Index published by the Othering and Belonging Institute (OBI) at the University of California, United States. Small countries like Bangladesh (106) and Israel (115) are in a better position than India. The index examines inclusivity in the context of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability and the general population using several measures. According to the OBI release, the measures include out-group violence, political representation, income inequality, anti-discrimination laws, imprisonment rates and immigration/asylum policies. India ranks last (129th) in religious inclusion, 121st in gender, 108th in disability, 87th in race, 40th in general population and 39th in LGBTQ. Villupuram MP D. Ravikumar said the BJP-led central government should accept the findings. Instead of ignoring and declaring that the study was an attempt to tarnish the country's image globally, concrete action should be taken to correct the disparity.
