The Center and the Manipur government signed a peace accord with the UNLF, Manipur's oldest valley-based armed group.

MOUs and Agreement

The Government of India and the Government of Manipur signed a peace agreement with the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Manipur's oldest valley-based armed group. This agreement is set to promote the beginning of a new era of peace in the North East in general and Manipur in particular. While political agreements have been finalized with several ethnic armed groups in the North East as part of the Indian government's conflict resolution initiative, this is the first time that a valley-based Manipuri armed group agreed to give up violence and return to the mainstream. Is. This agreement will not only end the hostilities between the UNLF and the security forces, which have claimed precious lives on both sides over the last half century, but will also provide an opportunity to address the long-standing concerns of the community. It is hoped that the return of the UNLF to the mainstream will encourage other valley-based armed groups to participate in the peace process at the appropriate time. A Peace Monitoring Committee (PMC) will be formed to monitor the implementation of the agreed ground rules.
