ISRO Successfully Tests Fuel Cell Power System (FCPS) in Space.

Science & Technology | Dated: 05 Jan 2026

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully tested a 100 W class Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) based Power System in its orbital platform, POEM-3. The experiment was launched aboard PSLV-C58. The fuel cell produces electricity from Hydrogen and Oxygen, with pure water as the only byproduct.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • This technology is critical for the proposed Indian Space Station to provide power and water.
  • It is more efficient and emission-free compared to conventional power sources.
  • The test validated the operation of fuel cells in the vacuum and zero-gravity environment of space.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • Technology: Fuel Cell Power System (FCPS).
  • Platform: POEM-3.
  • Application: Space Station.
