On the occasion of Kerala Piravi (Kerala Day) on November 1, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that Kerala has successfully eradicated extreme poverty, making it the first state in India to achieve this significant milestone. This success is attributed to the state's dedicated four-year Extreme Poverty Eradication Programme (EPEP), which was implemented by the local self-government department through micro-plans focusing on income, health, housing, and food for identified families.
