In October 2025, the Department of Legal Affairs (DLA), under the Ministry of Law and Justice (MoL&J), recently notified the Notaries (Amendment) Rules, 2025 through G.S.R. 763(E) to revise the maximum number of notaries that can be appointed by the State Governments of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu (TN), Rajasthan, and Nagaland under the Notaries Act, 1952 (Act 53 of 1952).
