World Rose Day (WRD), observed annually on September 22, honors cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers. The day promotes hope, compassion, and awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.


      - World Rose Day 2025 focuses on supporting cancer patients and caregivers while spreading awareness about prevention, early detection, and treatment strategies.

      - The day commemorates Melinda Rose, a 12-year-old Canadian girl diagnosed with rare blood cancer, whose courage and writings inspired global awareness about cancer before her passing in 1996.

      - Globally, cancer remains a leading health challenge, with an estimated 20 million new cases and 9.7 million deaths projected in 2025. Lung cancer is most common in men, and breast cancer in women.

Main Point :-   (i) The World Health Organization (WHO) urges enhanced investment in cancer prevention, screening, treatment, and palliative care to reduce global cancer burden and address healthcare disparities.

      (ii) In India, the ICMR-National Cancer Registry Programme (ICMR-NCRP) reported around 1.5 million new cancer cases in 2023, projected to reach 1.57 million by 2025.

(iii) Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal have the highest incidence, highlighting the growing national cancer challenge.
