PESB Recommends B Sairam as Next CMD of Coal India Limited.

In September 2025, the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) panel recommended B Sairam as the next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Coal India Limited (CIL), a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Coal. He is set to succeed Polavarapu Mallikharjuna (P.M) Prasad, who will retire on 31 October 2025, with the appointment awaiting final approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

      - B Sairam brings over 34 years of experience in the coal sector, with expertise in mine planning and expansion, operations, sustainable mining, logistics, digitization, and regulatory affairs, making him well-suited for the top leadership role at CIL.

Main Point :-   (i) Since March 2024, he has been serving as the CMD of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), gaining extensive leadership experience in one of CIL’s major subsidiaries.

      (ii) Prior to his current role, B Sairam served as Director (Technical) at Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and Executive Director (ED) at Coal India Limited (CIL), contributing significantly to technical and operational management.

(iii) His appointment as CMD of Coal India Limited is pending final clearance from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), following the PESB panel recommendation.
