CSIR-NISCPR Showcases Gender-Inclusive Innovation at UN Science Summit 2025.

In September 2025, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NISCPR) virtually participated in the Science Summit 2025 during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (SSUNGA80) in New York, USA, highlighting women’s role in science-driven innovation and equality.
- The session conducted by CSIR-NISCPR was themed “Women and Girls in Science: Driving Gender-Inclusive Innovation, Gender Equality, and Breaking Barriers”, presenting CSIR as a case study.
- CSIR-NISCPR organized a key session titled “Driving Gender-Inclusive Innovation, Gender Equality, and Breaking Barriers – CSIR Case Study” under its broader vision CSIR for 5C: Connect, Collaborate, Converge, and Convert (5C) for Global Sustainable Development. The session emphasized research-led inclusivity in science.
- The session was chaired by Dr. Ranjana Agarwal, Outstanding Scientist, CSIR. It featured research presentations, policy discussions, and case studies focused on advancing gender balance in scientific ecosystems.
Main Point :- (i) The discussions were aligned with specific SDGs, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), showing CSIR’s role in contributing to global commitments.
(ii) A second session of the summit featured a panel titled “Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) for a Changing World”. It was chaired by Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Former Senior Adviser, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.
(iii) The summit underlined persistent challenges in women’s participation in STEM, noting that globally, only 35% of professionals in STEM fields are women, underscoring the need for policies and programs to enhance inclusivity and equal opportunities worldwide.
