India and Greece Conduct First Bilateral Maritime Exercise in the Mediterranean.

The inaugural bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy (IN) and the Hellenic Navy (HN) was held from September 13 to 18, 2025, at Salamis Naval Base, Greece, and in the Mediterranean Sea, marking a significant milestone in defence cooperation and strategic maritime partnership between India and Greece.


      - The Indian Navy was represented by INS Trikand, a guided missile stealth frigate, while the Hellenic Navy participated with HS Themistokles, an Elli-class frigate, enhancing bilateral naval interoperability and operational familiarity.

      - This phase included cross-deck visits, professional interactions among crew members, and a pre-sail conference aboard HS Themistokles.

      - Cultural exchange events were conducted onboard INS Trikand, attended by Indian Ambassador Rudrendra Tandon, and included a visit to the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis.

Main Point :-   (i) Tactical exercises conducted at sea comprised night-time Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) operations, replenishment-at-sea procedures, joint Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations, coordinated gunfire exercises, and cross-deck helicopter operations.

      (ii) The exercise strengthened maritime security cooperation, enhanced operational coordination, and promoted mutual understanding of naval procedures, contributing to regional stability and deepening India-Greece defence ties.
