India Re-elected to CA & POC of Universal Postal Union for 2025-28.

In September 2025, at the 28th Universal Postal Congress held in Dubai, India was re-elected to two important governing bodies of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for the period 2025-28, reinforcing its role in global postal governance.
- India secured re-election to the Council of Administration (CA) and the Postal Operations Council (POC) of the UPU under the Asia-Pacific group for the term 2025-2028.
- The elections took place during the 28th UPU Congress in Dubai, UAE, which was held from September 8 to 19, 2025.
- The re-election reflects the confidence of UPU member states in India’s postal reforms, digital initiatives, and its leadership in innovation and financial inclusion.
Main Point :- (i) India has been a member of the UPU since 1876, and serves a postal network covering approximately 1.45 billion people.
(ii) A key initiative announced alongside was the UPI-UPU Integration Project, a collaborative effort between the Department of Posts, NPCI International Payments Ltd, and UPU to integrate India’s Unified Payments Interface with the UPU interconnection platform to enable secure, fast, low-cost cross-border remittances.
(iii) UPU is a UN-specialised agency with 192 member countries; CA has 41 member countries and POC has 48. India’s role in these bodies means influence in policy regulation, operational standards, modernization of postal services and international postal cooperation.
