CCEA Approves Doubling of Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat Railway Line and Construction of Mokama–Munger Section of Buxar–Bhagalpur HSR Corridor.

On 10 September 2025, the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved key infrastructure projects including railway doubling and a new high-speed corridor section to enhance connectivity in Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
- The CCEA approved doubling of the 177 km Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat single railway line spanning Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, with a total outlay of ₹3,169 crores.
- The multi-tracking project will cover 5 districts, impacting 441 villages and around 2.87 lakh people. It will also connect aspirational districts like Banka, Godda, and Dumka, and provide direct connectivity to destinations such as Deoghar.
- The upgraded line will decongest busy routes, enhance freight movement of coal, cement, fertilizers, and bricks, and improve operational efficiency, aligning with the government’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’
Main Point :- (i) The CCEA also approved construction of an 82.4 km 4-lane Greenfield access-controlled Mokama–Munger section of the Buxar–Bhagalpur High-Speed Road Corridor in Bihar, under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), with a cost of ₹4,447.38 crores.
(ii) The corridor is designed for a speed of up to 100 km/h and will connect major regional hubs like Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, and Jamalpur, significantly reducing travel time by 1–1.5 hours.
(iii) The project will boost Eastern India’s economy by improving access to industrial clusters and supporting faster movement of goods and services. It strengthens the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti – National Master Plan (PM Gati Shakti – NMP) by integrating transport infrastructure.
