India Unveils UPI–UPU Integration at 28th Universal Postal Congress.

On 8 September 2025, Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia launched the UPI–UPU Integration Project at the 28th Universal Postal Congress in Dubai, UAE, marking a historic step to transform cross-border digital remittances.
- The UPI–UPU Integration Project is a collaborative initiative between the Department of Posts, NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), and the Universal Postal Union (UPU), bringing together India’s fintech innovation and the global postal network.
- Integrates India’s UPI with the UPU Interconnection Platform, combining postal reach with UPI’s speed for instant, secure, low-cost remittances worldwide.
- India pledged USD 10 million to support innovation, digital payments, e-commerce, and training; also announced its candidature for UPU’s Council of Administration & Postal Operations Council.
Main Point :- (i) Through Aadhaar, Jan Dhan, and IPPB, India has enabled 560M+ bank accounts (majority for women). In 2024, India Post handled 900M+ letters and parcels, showcasing nationwide reach.
(ii) UPI processed 185B transactions worth USD 2.83T in 2024–25, accounting for ~50% of global digital payments; already accepted in the Gulf region and at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
(iii) Supports UN SDG target of reducing global remittance costs below 3% by 2030. UPU DG Masahiko Metoki praised India’s leadership and active role in global postal and financial networks.
