Star Rating Award Ceremony 2023-24 Held in Mumbai by Ministry of Coal.

In September 2025, the Ministry of Coal (MoC) organised the Star Rating Award Ceremony for 2023-24 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to recognise coal and lignite mines for their excellence in safety, sustainability, and productivity. The event was graced by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Union MoS Satish Chandra Dubey, and Secretary Vikram Dev.


      - The Star Rating system, introduced by MoC, is designed to promote competitiveness and accountability in the coal sector.

      - The evaluation for 2023-24 included 383 coal and lignite mines, covering both public and private operators.

      - The initiative serves as a benchmark to encourage mines to adopt best practices in environmental and operational management.

Main Point :-   (i) A total of 42 mines earned 5-star status, with 4 achieving 1st rank, 3 securing 2nd rank, 6 attaining 3rd rank, and 29 receiving the Achievers Prize.

      (ii) NLC India Limited (Neyveli Lignite Corporation), a Navratna CPSE, stood out as every one of its operating mines was recognised, underscoring its dominance in sustainable mining and operational efficiency.

(iii) The event featured the launch of a revamped Coal Controller’s Organisation (CCO) website, an interactive data dashboard, and two new frameworks — L.I.V.E.S (Learning, Innovation, Vision, Environment, Sustainability) and ARTHA (Atmanirbhar Reclamation and Transformation for Holistic Assets) to advance the sector’s future readiness.
