RBI Approves ₹100 Commemorative Coin for Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika’s Centenary.

In August 2025, the RBI approved the issue of a special ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the coin during the official centenary celebrations.

      - The approval was notified through the Gazette of India, giving the coin official legal tender status.

      - Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked PM Modi for this recognition and highlighted Hazarika’s role in promoting Assamese culture worldwide.

      - The centenary programmes will take place across Guwahati, Roing, Kolkata, New Delhi, and Mumbai, showcasing his songs, writings, and artworks.

Main Point :-   (i) The coin will be formally unveiled by PM Modi on 13 September 2025 during the main centenary programme.

      (ii) A new biography of Bhupen Hazarika will be launched, documenting his journey as a singer, poet, filmmaker, and social reformer.

(iii) A dedicated Bhupen Hazarika Museum will be established as part of the centenary legacy projects to preserve his archives and cultural contributions.
