Bhutan PM Dasho Tshering Tobgay Concludes Four-Day Official Visit to India with Key Bilateral and Cultural Engagements.

Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, accompanied by First Lady Aum Tashi Doma, Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan), and senior officials, paid a four-day official visit to India from September 3–6, 2025. This marked his second visit to India in 2025, following his earlier trip in February, highlighting the deepening strategic and cultural partnership between the two nations.


      - During the Bihar leg of his visit, PM Tobgay inaugurated the Royal Bhutan Temple at Rajgir, Nalanda, where Union Minister Kiren Rijiju (MoMA – Ministry of Minority Affairs) and Bhutanese representatives were present, symbolizing Buddhist cultural diplomacy.

      - He also visited Nalanda University, proposing stronger cooperation through academic exchanges, scholarships, and cultural collaboration, and extended an invitation for the University to join Bhutan’s Global Peace Prayer Festival.

     

Main Point :-   (i) On September 4, 2025, he offered prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple, Bodh Gaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while on September 5 he visited the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya (UP), becoming the first foreign leader to visit the temple after its consecration.

      (ii) On September 6, 2025, Adani Power Limited (APL), India’s largest private power producer, signed an agreement with Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC), Bhutan, to establish a 570-Megawatt Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan, strengthening India-Bhutan energy cooperation.

(iii) The Royal Bhutan Temple inauguration at Nalanda aligns with the India-Bhutan Buddhist circuit collaboration, enhancing religious tourism and promoting cultural diplomacy in Rajgir, Bodh Gaya, and Nalanda as Buddhist heritage hubs.
