21st Edition of India–USA Joint Military Exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas 2025’ Commences at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

The 21st edition of the India–United States of America (USA) joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas 2025’ began on 1 September 2025 at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, USA. The exercise will continue till 14 September 2025, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation, operational readiness, and UN peacekeeping capabilities.


      - The Indian Army has sent a contingent from the Madras Regiment to participate in the exercise. From the USA, the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment “Bobcats” of the Arctic Wolves Brigade Combat Team, part of the 11th Airborne Division, has joined the training.

      - Yudh Abhyas, first initiated in 2004, is an annual bilateral military exercise conducted alternately in India and the USA.

      - It is held under the framework of Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, emphasizing counter-terrorism, peacekeeping, and humanitarian operations.

Main Point :-   (i) The last edition of Yudh Abhyas took place at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan, India. This year’s edition in Alaska focuses on adapting to cold-weather combat, mountainous warfare, and high-altitude operations with advanced tactical integration.

      (ii) The exercise features diverse drills including helicopter operations, the use of surveillance drones, medical evacuation systems, rock climbing, and the deployment of Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, enabling both armies to improve operational interoperability.

(iii) Alongside tactical training, both sides will conduct knowledge-sharing sessions involving subject matter experts from the Indian and US armies. These cover counter-UAS operations, cyber defense, logistics, and communications, preparing the forces for multi-domain challenges and UN peacekeeping missions.
