In August 2025, the Dao Division of the Indian Army signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharti Airtel to strengthen digital and mobile connectivity in the forward areas of Dibang Valley and Anjaw districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The collaboration focuses on improving telecom infrastructure, supporting security forces, and empowering local communities.
- The MoU was signed with the primary aim of enhancing mobile network coverage in strategically important border villages and remote terrains of Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative will provide reliable communication facilities not only for residents of these regions but also for Indian Army personnel deployed in forward areas, ensuring better connectivity in challenging locations.
- The agreement further seeks to align with the objectives of the Digital India programme by expanding digital infrastructure in border districts. Through improved connectivity, the initiative will enable seamless communication among security forces, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening national security in forward regions.
- The collaboration is expected to boost civilian access to telecom facilities, particularly in Dibang Valley and Anjaw districts, which face frequent communication disruptions due to their difficult geographical conditions. By addressing these challenges, the project will help integrate these remote districts into the mainstream of digital connectivity and development.
Main Point :- (i) Beyond connectivity, the partnership also plays a role in empowering local communities. Improved access to mobile networks will support economic activities, social services, and emergency response systems. It will also help safeguard the borders more effectively by ensuring better coordination between military personnel and local residents in these sensitive frontier areas.
(ii) The Indian Army’s partnership with Bharti Airtel reflects a strategic step towards enhancing both national security and inclusive development in Arunachal Pradesh.
