  • (i) Originally, Madras State came into existence on 1st November 1956 during the States Reorganisation Act, which reorganized Indian states based on linguistic lines. It included parts of the present-day Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala.
  • (ii) In 2022, the DMK-led government under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin declared 18th July as the official Tamil Nadu Day, overturning an earlier decision by the AIADMK government, which had chosen 1st November for the observance. The change aimed to highlight the significance of Tamil identity over administrative reorganization.
