The United Nations’ International Day of the Seafarer (DotS) was observed on June 25, 2025, marking its 15th annual celebration. The day honours the crucial role of seafarers in powering global trade and sustaining the maritime economy.


      - Organized each year by the International Maritime Organization (IMO)—a UN agency headquartered in London, United Kingdom (UK)—this day acknowledges the commitment of seafarers navigating oceans to deliver essential goods and services.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The 2025 campaign theme is “My Harassment-Free Ship,” focusing on ensuring safe, respectful, and inclusive work environments for all seafarers worldwide.

      (ii) The idea for the observance was formalized during a diplomatic conference in Manila, Philippines, held from June 21–25, 2010, where the Manila Amendments to the STCW Convention were adopted to improve seafarer training and working standards.

(iii) Following Resolution 2 of that conference, June 25 was officially designated as the Day of the Seafarer, and the first global observance was held in 2011.
