World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2025 – Observed on June 15.

Important Days

The United Nations (UN) marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on 15 June 2025, a global occasion aimed at spotlighting the increasing concerns related to abuse, neglect, and mistreatment of elderly individuals across societies.

      - The official theme for this year’s observance was: “Addressing Abuse of Older Adults in Long-Term Care Facilities: Through Data and Action”.

      - This theme emphasizes improving the quality of life for elders in nursing homes and assisted living environments, using evidence-based research to shape protective policies and practical responses.

      - The awareness initiative began in the United States (New York) through the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA). It was supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, which jointly recognized the urgency of elder rights and dignity.
