ICRISAT, IFFCO, and BBSSL Join Hands to Set Up 'Beej Anusandhan Kendra' in Gujarat.

In June 2025, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), based in Hyderabad, Telangana, along with Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) and Bhartiya Beej Sahkari Samiti Limited (BBSSL), both based in New Delhi, signed a Tripartite Service Agreement to establish the 'Beej Anusandhan Kendra (BAK)' – a state-of-the-art seed research and development center in Kalol, Gujarat.


      - The BAK is envisioned as a modern facility to strengthen India’s seed innovation ecosystem and promote sustainable agriculture.

      - ICRISAT has been appointed as the Knowledge Partner and will be responsible for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) outlining the scientific framework, functions, and design of the centre.

     

Main Point :-   (i) IFFCO, a leading multi-state cooperative society, will undertake the construction of the BAK infrastructure.

      (ii) BBSSL, a national-level seed cooperative, will be in charge of operating the center.

(iii) This collaboration aligns with the vision laid out in the recent MoU signed between ICRISAT and IFFCO during ICRISAT’s Foundation Day to boost seed research and agricultural innovation in India.
