IIT Kharagpur and Singapore’s IME Ink MoU to Boost Semiconductor Technology Collaboration.

Economy Business

In June 2025, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, West Bengal (WB), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Microelectronics (IME), Singapore, to boost global cooperation in semiconductor technology.

      - IME functions as a core research institute under Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).

      - The MoU was formalized during SEMICON Southeast Asia (SEA) 2025, a premier semiconductor industry event held from 20th to 22nd May 2025 in Singapore.

Main Point :-   (i) The MoU establishes joint research in advanced semiconductor technologies, including Post-CMOS transistors, heterogeneous integration, chip packaging, AI-driven hardware accelerators, quantum devices, photonics, thermal management, and reliability diagnostics.

(ii) It promotes bilateral exchange programs for researchers, engineers, and students, along with specialized training workshops and joint symposiums to tackle global semiconductor challenges.

(iii) The partnership aligns with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to make India a global semiconductor hub, leveraging IIT Kharagpur’s microelectronics expertise and IME’s industrial R&D capabilities.
