In June 2025, Kumar Mangalam (KM) Birla, Chairman of Mumbai-based Aditya Birla Group, was recently honoured with the 2025 Global Leadership Award by the United States-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) during its 8th Annual Leadership Summit held in Washington, USA.
- The award celebrates his outstanding contribution to strengthening international business ties and leadership in advancing strategic partnerships, particularly between the United States, India, and Japan.
- Along with KM Birla, other awardees included Arvind Krishna, Chairman, President & CEO of IBM (New York, USA), and Toshiaki Higashihara, Executive Chairman of Hitachi (Tokyo, Japan). All three have played key roles in promoting cross-border innovation, investment, and collaboration.
- In 2023, Nita Ambani, Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, was honoured with the same award by USISPF for her significant philanthropic efforts in education, healthcare, arts, and sports.
Main Point :- (i) Kumar Mangalam Birla has served in key roles including Director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Chairman of SEBI, where he developed India’s first corporate governance code. He also serves as Chancellor of BITS Pilani, which has campuses across Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, Dubai, and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
(ii) He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2023 for his contributions to trade and industry. KM Birla has also received the CA Hall of Fame Award (2024) by ICAI and was named 'Business Leader of the Decade' by AIMA in 2023.
(iii) The USISPF Global Leadership Award is an annual recognition given to individuals who contribute significantly to the US-India partnership in areas like business, philanthropy, CSR, and cultural diplomacy.
