In June 2025, Indian Biogas Association (IBA), based in Gurugram, Haryana, and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaboratively develop India's bioenergy and bio-hydrogen sectors.

      - The partnership aims to promote sustainable energy solutions by jointly working on innovation, capacity building, and infrastructure development.

      - A key highlight of the collaboration includes the establishment of a dedicated knowledge center for bioenergy initiatives, which will serve as a hub for sharing technology, infrastructure, and skilled manpower.

Main Point :-   (i) The partnership aims to strengthen India’s biofuels industry by combining the capabilities of both organizations, focusing on areas like training, capacity building, and policy advocacy to accelerate sectoral growth.

(ii) Both IBA and IOCL will work together on research and development (R&D), with an emphasis on industry-institute collaboration to promote biogas and bio-hydrogen initiatives across the country.

(iii) Notably, IOCL had earlier partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to develop biomass gasification-based hydrogen production technology, supporting the goal of producing affordable, fuel cell-grade hydrogen.
