Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios Visits India to Mark 64 Years of Diplomatic Ties and Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation.

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios undertook a 3-day official state visit to India from June 2 to 5, 2025, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the goal of strengthening bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and cultural domains.


      - The visit held special significance as it coincided with the 64th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Paraguay.

      - On June 2, 2025, President Santiago Peña Palacios was warmly received with a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at the Palam Air Force Station in Delhi Cantonment, New Delhi.

      - President of India, Droupadi Murmu, hosted an official banquet in honour of President Peña at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, underscoring the friendly ties between the two nations.

Main Point :-   (i) A bilateral meeting was held between PM Narendra Modi and President Peña at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, where both leaders reviewed and discussed the growth and future roadmap of India-Paraguay diplomatic relations.

      (ii) To enhance institutional cooperation, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Paraguay’s Foreign Minister Ruben Ramirez Lezcano signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Joint Commission Mechanism (JCM) in New Delhi.

(iii) Both countries highlighted the interest of the Paraguayan Space Agency (AEP) in collaborating with Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Indian Space research Organisation (ISRO) in the development and launch of CubeSats using launch vehicles of ISRO.
