MeitY Report Reveals India Will Need 1 Million AI Professionals by 2026.

In June 2025, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) released a report titled "India's AI Revolution: A Roadmap to Viksit Bharat," estimating that India will require 1 million skilled Artificial Intelligence (AI) professionals by 2026.


      - The report underscores AI's significant role in accelerating India's digital transformation and supports the vision of becoming a USD 23-35 trillion economy by 2047.

      - Under the IndiaAI Future Skills initiative, AI has been integrated into undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and PhD programs, with fellowships being offered in the top 50 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) institutions to support advanced learning.

      - To strengthen grassroots-level AI capacity, AI and Data Labs are being set up in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. A model AI lab has already been established at the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) in New Delhi, aimed at providing hands-on practical training to students and professionals.

Main Point :-   (i) According to the New Delhi (Delhi)-based All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), approved B.Tech seats for 2024-25 have increased to 14.9 lakh, reflecting a 16% growth over four years.

      (ii) India has witnessed over a 50% surge in enrolments across high-demand technology streams such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, and Blockchain. This surge is contributing significantly to the country’s effort to build a robust AI talent pool.
