IATA Hosts 81st Annual General Meeting & World Air Transport Summit 2025 from June 1 to 3.

The 81st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the World Air Transport Summit (WATS) took place from June 1 to 3, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre, New Delhi. The event was hosted by IndiGo, India’s largest airline.


      - The summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chaired by Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo and Chair of the IATA Board of Governors.

      - On June 2, PM Modi addressed the IATA AGM and WATS plenary session, emphasizing India’s growing role in the global aviation sector through policy innovation, market growth, and inclusive development.

     

Main Point :-   (i) PM Modi unveiled “Aviation Vision 2047,” outlining India’s ambition to expand to 350 airports by 2047, including adding 50 new airports by 2030, under the broader Viksit Bharat Vision.

      (ii) Luis Gallego, CEO of International Airlines Group (IAG), was appointed as the 83rd Chair of the IATA Board of Governors. He succeeds Pieter Elbers, who will continue as a board member.

(iii) The event was organized by Montreal-based IATA and hosted by Gurugram-based IndiGo, reflecting India’s expanding influence in global aviation affairs.
