MoS&T Launches ‘Battery Aadhaar’ to Strengthen India’s Battery Ecosystem.

In May 2025, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science & Technology (MoS&T), unveiled the 'Battery Aadhaar Initiative' at the Battery Summit 2025 held in New Delhi, Delhi.


      - This initiative aims to enhance traceability, safety, efficiency, and sustainability across India’s battery ecosystem.

      - The Battery Summit 2025, themed "Addressing Challenges, Driving Innovation and Scaling Solutions," underscored India’s dedication to advancing clean energy technologies.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The 'Battery Aadhaar' technology was developed by Tata Elxsi Limited, based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, in partnership with key consortium members including Tata Motors Limited (Mumbai, Maharashtra), Tata AutoComp Systems Limited (Pune, Maharashtra), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur (West Bengal), LOHUM Cleantech (Noida), NUNAM Technologies (Bengaluru), and Oorja Energy (Hyderabad).

      (ii) The initiative is powered by Tata Elxsi’s MOBIUS+ platform, which employs blockchain technology to ensure end-to-end traceability and streamline automated compliance reporting.

(iii) The Battery Aadhaar assigns a unique 16-digit digital identity to every battery pack, capturing essential details such as manufacturing date and location, battery chemistry and capacity, material composition including lithium content and electrode materials, usage history and lifecycle data, and end-of-life status including recycling information.
