Sidi Ould Tah Elected as President of African Development Bank for a 5-Year Term.

In May 2025, Mauritanian economist Sidi Ould Tah was elected as the ninth President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) during the 2025 AfDB Annual Meetings held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast).


      - He will officially take office on 1st September 2025, serving a five-year term, succeeding Akinwumi Adesina of Nigeria, who completed two full terms as AfDB President.

      - In the third round of voting, Sidi Ould Tah secured 76.18% of total votes and 72.37% of regional votes, defeating four other candidates in the process.

      - Sidi Ould Tah brings over 30 years of experience in African and international finance, including his tenure as Director General (DG) of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), headquartered in Khartoum, Sudan, from 2015 to 2025.

Main Point :-   (i) In addition to his leadership at BADEA, he has held important ministerial roles in Mauritania, such as Minister of Economy and Finance and Minister of Economic Affairs and Development.

      (ii) His election reflects strong confidence in his ability to lead AfDB's mission of promoting sustainable development and economic integration across the African continent.
