World Vape Day Observed on 30 May 2025.

Important Days

World Vape Day is annually observed on May 30, aiming to promote harm reduction strategies for adult smokers by advocating safer nicotine alternatives such as e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches, and heated tobacco products. It is strategically held a day before World No Tobacco Day (May 31), led by the World Health Organization (WHO).

      - May 30, 2025, marks the 20th anniversary of modern vaping. The theme for World Vape Day 2025 is “20 years of Facts – Vaping Works!”, highlighting vaping’s two-decade contribution to tobacco harm reduction.

      - Vaping involves using an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette), a battery-powered device that converts liquid nicotine into vapor. It uses an atomizer to heat the liquid (often with ethylene glycol), producing a mist that mimics smoking without the harmful smoke.

      - Initiated by the World Vapers’ Alliance (WVA), a U.S.-based nonprofit, World Vape Day started as a grassroots campaign to lower smoking-related diseases through safer alternatives and promote reasonable regulation of vaping products.

Main Point :-   (i) Hon Lik, a Chinese pharmacist, invented e-cigarettes in 2003. These devices became popular in Europe and the USA by 2005 and include variants like vape pens, e-pipes, and e-hookahs, classified under ENDS (Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems) and ENNDS.

(ii) Research by Public Health England (PHE) states vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking. A Cochrane Systematic Review found that nicotine e-cigarettes are more effective than traditional Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRTs) in helping smokers quit.

(iii) Countries embracing vaping—like the UK, New Zealand, Sweden, Japan, and the USA—have witnessed sharp declines in smoking rates, underlining the effectiveness of vaping as a harm-reduction tool.
