Intelsat Secures IN-SPACe Clearance to Launch Direct-to-Home Satellite Broadcast Services in India.

On May 27, 2025, United States of America (USA)-based Intelsat, a global satellite services provider, received authorization from the Ahmedabad (Gujarat)-based Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), functioning under the Department of Space (DoS), Government of India (GoI), to offer direct satellite coverage to media organizations within India.


      - The clearance permits Intelsat to operate four Geostationary (GEO) satellites—Indian Space (IS)-17, IS-20, IS-36, and IS-39—providing Communication Band (C-Band) coverage across the Indian region.

      - Following the approval, Intelsat signed agreements with three of India's leading media companies, further solidifying its presence in the South Asian market.

      - Intelsat is a prominent provider of satellite communication services, operating a global fleet to deliver video and broadband solutions efficiently and reliably.

Main Point :-   (i) The approved GEO satellite fleet is set to support India’s vibrant broadcast media sector by enabling improved content delivery, distribution efficiency, and extended regional and international coverage.

      (ii) The four-satellite network will offer robust, high-performance connectivity solutions tailored to meet the evolving needs of Indian broadcasters.

(iii) Intelsat has emerged as one of the first foreign satellite operators to secure government approval for satellite service provision in India.
