Adille Sumariwalla Receives Asian Athletics Leadership Gold Pin in South Korea.

In May 2025, Dr. Adille J. Sumariwalla, Vice President of World Athletics and former President of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), was honored with the Asian Athletics Leadership Gold Pin by the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) during its Congress held in Gumi, South Korea.


      - The award was presented by General Dahlan Al Hamad, President of AAA, in recognition of Sumariwalla’s outstanding contributions to the development and leadership of athletics across Asia.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) He Represented India in the 100 metres sprint at the 1980 Moscow Olympics and held the national record in the event for 18 years. He also won the gold medal at the 1984 South Asian Games.

      (ii) Served as President of AFI for 12 years; elected as Vice President of World Athletics in 2023, becoming the first Indian to hold this position. Has served in multiple international athletics committees, contributing significantly to policy-making and sports development.

(iii) Recipient of the Arjuna Award (1985) for excellence in athletics; honoured with the Shiv Chhatrapati Award (1980) and the Dadoji Konddev Award (1999) by the Government of Maharashtra for his achievements in sports and coaching.
