Ministry of Railways Approves New Train Service Connecting Agartala and Guwahati.

In May 2025, the Ministry of Railways (MoR) approved the launch of a new express train service between Agartala (Tripura) and Guwahati (Assam) via Narangi (NNGE) station to meet the rising passenger demand between these two cities.


      - The approval came following a representation by Biplab Kumar Deb, Member of Parliament (MP) from West Tripura and former Chief Minister (CM) of Tripura, to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, MoR, during a meeting held in April 2025 in New Delhi.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The new train service will originate from Agartala and make a halt at Narangi (NNGE), situated on the outskirts of Guwahati.

      (ii) This train service aims to ease passenger traffic between the Northeast cities of Agartala and Guwahati, the latter being a major commercial, healthcare, and educational hub in the region.

(iii) Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully completed a trial run of an electric locomotive between southern Assam and Tripura as part of the Rs 46 crore electrification project, which is intended to integrate Tripura into the national electric railway network.
