Bengaluru’s ADTL Delivers Indigenous Surya VHF Radar to Indian Air Force (IAF).

Science and Technology

In March 2025, Alpha Design Technologies Private Limited (ADTL), headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, successfully delivered the first of six indigenously developed Surya Very High Frequency (VHF) radar systems to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

      - The delivery was made under a ₹200 crore contract, marking a significant step toward enhancing India’s self-reliance in defense technology.

      - The Surya VHF radar is a mobile, solid-state, three-dimensional (3D) radar system specifically designed to detect stealth aircraft and low-observable aerial threats, thereby bolstering India’s air surveillance and national security infrastructure.

Main Point :-   (i) The Surya VHF radar can detect targets with a 2 sq.m radar cross-section at ranges up to 360 km and altitudes up to 15 km, providing wide-area surveillance.

(ii) Operating in the VHF band (30–300 MHz), it neutralizes stealth features using longer wavelengths. It is mounted on two 6x6 trucks for mobility and offers 360° coverage through 10 rotations per minute.

(iii) Fully compatible with India’s C4ISR architecture, it integrates with indigenous defense systems such as the Akash missile and Ashwini LLTR, enhancing overall air defense coordination.
